Happy Mother’s Day, Moms!
Do you have more to do than you can manage sometimes and so you operate into overdrive? Experts say the newest disorder of the 21st century is called “hurry-up sickness,” and lots of us today have it.
As a mom prepared lunch in the kitchen, her little boy followed her around telling a long, drawn-out story about something that happened on the playground at kindergarten. All the while his mother bustled around, throwing a load of clothes on one minute, picking things up as she whipped up a salad for two girlfriends set to arrive any minute for lunch.
“Mommy, are you listening?” he asked.
“Sure, honey, I’m listening…” she answered as she poured the iced tea. Again he started the story as she went over and turned off the oven.
“Mommy, are you listening?” he pleaded.
Finally the five-year-old tugged on her pants leg until she got down on his eye level. “But, Mommy, would you listen with your face?”
I think God wants that for us as well, to listen with our face and heart—to give him our attention and focus. You may have a schedule like Martha, the busy sister in the Bible (see Luke 10:41-42). But you can develop a heart like her sister Mary who listened to Jesus. God has so much to share with you, to show you His love, and to give you the wisdom and creative ideas you need to guide your kids and solve all kinds of problems and challenges you face as a mom.
He promises, “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and unsearchable things you don’t know!” Jeremiah 33:3, the verse that is called “God’s Private Telephone Number.” Call it often and don’t forget to listen for the answers!
